Aeolian systems

Lee face crossbedding in a Pleistocene coastal dune-barrier system, Kariotahi, west Auckland. Apparent foreset dips are 30o which is close to the angle of repose. Minimum thickness is about 3 m – the base is not exposed, and the upper contact an erosional discordance. Individual foreset layers are a mix of ripple and airfall laminae.
